Lang, Marilyn M. Marilyn was born in Three Rivers, Michigan on November 23, 1927 to Don & Myrtle (ne Flewelin) Ohls of Mendon, Michigan and passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019. She graduated from Mendon High School with the Class of 1945. She married Marlon Newmann Lang on December 23, 1947. After his graduation from Pharmacy School at Ferris State College they moved to Kalamazoo. Marilyn is survived by 3 children and their spouses: Julie (Stephen) Gibson of Stuart, FL; Sherrie (Bruce) Townsend of Manassas, VA; and Andrew (Deanna) Lang of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren: Jenna Gibson (Morri Freeman) and Whitney Gibson, all of Manhattan Beach, CA; Cory Townsend (Abby) of Manassas, VA & Katelin Townsend, of San Diego, CA; Joseph Lang (Carey) of Quantico, VA, Matthew Lang, of Kalamazoo; and two great-grandchildren: Calder Mackinaw Freeman and Hailey Marie Townsend; nieces Kristine (Doug) Smith, Marie Miller and Margie (Chuck) Denoyer, and nephews Otho Ulrich and Mitchel Ulrich. Her husband, Marlon, her sister, Joan Miller and her parents preceded her in death. She was employed by The Mendon Company and later at Snow's Pharmacy, Kalamazoo, MI in the late 1940s and early 1950s. After her children were born she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker, known for her love of all things chocolate and her Sour Cream Drop cookies. She felt that every meal out should end with a long-savored cup of coffee. During the 1950s, 60s and 70s, Marilyn was an active member of the Westnedge Hill community as a Brownie Leader and at Parkwood Elementary and South Junior High School PTAs. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and was, for many years, the Sunday School Secretary, as well as a member of the Katherine Carver Guild. She also volunteered as Buyer and Sales Associate for the Gift Shop at Bronson Methodist Hospital for many years. In the second half of her life she was employed as a caregiver for the families of Ron and Kristine Quisling (Heather, Jim, John & Bill); Chuck and Kathleen Kiplinger (Dan, Kristine & Michael); Harold and Joy Minor (Karena, Kim & Kathleen); Joel and Brenda Katz (Michael & Sarah) and Mike and Tina Garrett (Lauren & Ian). Marilyn's family her husband, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and those who were "like family" were her focus in life. She followed the lives of those she loved with avid interest, seldom missing an event or celebration. Marilyn lived a full life and leaves behind many good friends and family. She was a wonderful wife and mother, was well loved, and is dearly missed. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life service will be scheduled for early summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilyn's honor may be directed to the Kalamazoo Nature Center: naturecenter.org/donate or the Kalamazoo Air Zoo: airzoo.org/support. www.langelands.com
