Marilyn Hobson

Marilyn Joyce Hobson went home to be with her Lord on August 17, 2016 at the age of 79. Marilyn was born March 27, 1937 in Kalamazoo, the daughter of the late Peter and Sylvia (Thomas) VanderLay, and was a lifelong Portage area resident. She was employed for over 35 years with Industrial State Bank / Comerica Bank, ending her banking career as the Portage Comerica Branch Manager. Marilyn was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church of Portage, and was involved in many civic and community organizations throughout the years. She could always be found with a smile on her face. Marilyn loved her interaction with others no matter where she was at home, work, church, or out in the public. On December 21, 1977, she was united in marriage to Albert Hobson, who preceded her in death on February 27, 2004. Surviving are her children Bruce (Dawn) Hobson and Christa Hobson (Clyde Middleton); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many special friends. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday, August 22nd at the First Reformed Church of Portage, 7905 S. Westnedge Ave. where a service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 AM with Pastor Clayton Smith officiating. A private burial will be held in Portage Central Cemetery. Memorials in Marilyn's memory may be directed to the First Reformed Church of Portage or Hospice Care of SW Michigan.
