Dame, Marie B. 8/6/1925 - 7/6/2022 Kalamazoo Marie went to be with her Lord on July 6, 2022, at the age of 96. Marie was born on August 6,1925 in Holland, MI to John and Gertrude VanHuis. She attended Holland High School where she was part of the Klompen Dancers. She graduated High School in 1942 as valedictorian and went on to attend Western Michigan University where she met her future husband, Paul Dame. Graduating from Western Magna Cum Laude she then taught typing for one year in South Haven until she was married to Paul on June 21, 1947. She became a mother for the first time in 1952 and went on to raise 4 boys. She was a homemaker and supporter of her husband's career. Marie was also heavily involved in Second Reformed Church attending circle groups, teaching Sunday School and filling in as church secretary. She even dressed up as famous women of the Bible to help the story come to life. Continuing her love of education and learning she was also a member of the P.E.O (philanthropic educational organization). After her husband's retirement from The Upjohn Company in 1983 they bought a home in Florida where they spent 27 winters. In 2011 they returned home to Michigan full time to be near family. Marie enjoyed reading, knitting, playing the piano and sewing. She and Paul also traveled extensively throughout the United States including a cruise to Alaska. Marie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was always involved in her sons and grandchildren's activities. She is survived by her four sons; Donald ( Diana) Dame , Kenneth Dame, David (Fran) Dame and Robert (Cindy) Dame; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services 3926 S. 9th Street Kalamazoo, MI 49009. Interment will take place with her husband at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Second Reformed Church or Kindred Hospice, in memory of Marie.
