Marianna Hellenga

Marianna Hellenga, age 95, of Kalamazoo, MI went home to be with her Lord on Monday, April 10, 2017. Marianna was born on June 17, 1921, in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of Edwin and Tina (Hazelhoff) Norg. Marianna lived her whole life in Kalamazoo where she walked in the footsteps of her Lord and Savior. This is the legacy she left with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and then attended Mahers Business College. Marianna worked at the city hall and was also the bookkeeper for the family business, Sackett's Flooring Solutions. Marianna was a founding member of Immanuel Fellowship Church. On December 26, 1946, Marianna married her best friend and husband of 63 years, Fred Hellenga, who preceded her in death on March 28, 2010. Marianna was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Maurice Norg. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Hellenga of Santa Fe, NM and Karen (Tom) Boender of Kalamazoo; three grandchildren, Ryan (Julie) Boender, Chad Boender and Ashley (Kyle) Herm; and a great-grandchild, Baya Boender. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 13th at 6:30PM in Immanuel Fellowship Church, 6015 West H Avenue, with Pastor William Boekestein officiating. Marianne's family will greet guests immediately following the service. Private interment will be held in Alamo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Fellowship Church or the Kalamazoo Christian School Association. Langeland Funeral Home.
