Margaret Valk, age 97, of Holland, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2016 in Holland Hospital. She was three weeks shy of her 98th birthday.

Margaret was born on October 9, 1918 in Holland to Henry and Maggie (De Walle) Vander Hill. She married Jacob Valk on November 20, 1940 and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Margaret was a former member of Maple Avenue Christian Reformed Church and was a current member of Faith Christian Reformed Church. She leaves a legacy of a strong Christian faith and devotion to her Savior Jesus Christ. Her joy of life and beautiful smile will be greatly missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob in 2009; her son Dick Valk in 1983; and her brothers, Henry, Adrian, and Jack Vander Hill; and her sister, Anne (Van Dyke) Ver Hey.

Her family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Margo and Cal Mulder and family: Doug and Shannon Mulder (Jacob, Sam, and Layla), Tom Mulder, and Steve and Liz Mulder (Lilly and Zeke); her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bruce Harkema and family: Erin and Gary Howe (Abe and fiancé Kate, Evan, and Brady), Jill and Ryan Tanis (Trygve, Graham, and Drew), and Laura and Matt Meiste (Cole, Addison, and Brooklyn); her daughter-in-law, Judy Valk and family: Tim and Amy Valk (Reed, Owen, and Natalie), Derek and Holly Valk (Alexa, Reagan, and Conner), and Julie and Matt Sall (Micah and Madalyn). Margaret also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Faith Christian Reformed Church, 85 West 26th Street with Pastors Chad Pierce and Anthony Louwerse officiating.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Dykstra Funeral Homes -Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland.

Burial will take place in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
