Mabel Gropp Paxton passed into glory on Saturday June 15, 2019. Born in Michigan City, IN to Clara Radtke (96 yrs) and Rudolph Gropp (83 yrs) in 1917, Mabel celebrated her 102nd birthday on June 12th. Her 2 sisters Evelyn Hilberg Stralesky (84 yrs) and Leola Edmond ((91 yrs) and brother Donald J Gropp (78 yrs) preceded her in death as did her husband of 58 years, Robert Henke Paxton (2005, 87 years) and son Thomas (1985, 35 years). Mabel had a wonderful outgoing, cheerful personality, was creative, a good decorator, flower arranger and typist. Her sweet, kind and loving personality endeared her to others. Mabel and husband Robert began married life in Chicago on January 18, 1947, later moved to their hometown of Michigan City, IN for 10 years and then moved to Naperville, IL for 47 years. She was secretary to the president of North Central College, Naperville, IL as well as to the Chairman of the Education Department and worked at Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. She served for 25 years as secretary of the Hall of Famers at Knox Presbyterian Church, Naperville, IL where she and her husband joined the newly established the church. Mabel was generous in her giving and loved listening to Family Radio, Moody Radio and Dr. James Kennedy. She is survived by her beloved son, Robert of Portage, MI and beloved daughter Linda of Augusta, MI. We wish to thank the caregivers at Alden Courts of Waterford, Aurora, IL and The Gardens of Bronson Place, Kalamazoo, MI for the kind, loving care they gave to our Mother. All are welcome to attend the Memorial service to celebrate Mabel's life in the chapel of Calvary Bible Church, 855 S Drake Rd, Kalamazoo, MI on Wednesday, June 26 at 2:00 P.M. with visitation at 1:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to Knox Presbyterian Church of Naperville, IL or to Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL. Services entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 622 S Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
