M. Lois Anton, nee Farquharson, 87, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and wife of the late Sid Anton, died September 6th at Munson Medical Center, in Traverse City, due to pneumonia and complicating illnesses.

Born in 1928 in Detroit, Lois attended Saint Gregory’s Catholic School for 12 years. She went on to study clothing design at Michigan State University. It was there that she met Sid Anton. In 1950, they married and together raised their 6 children in Detroit and later in Birmingham. In 1975 Lois received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mercy College of Detroit, Magna Cum Laude. She generously used her experience and education to teach parenting classes at Planned Parenthood and community centers.

Lois was a devoted Catholic and very active in the parish community at Saint Regis in Birmingham, reading at mass, serving on the liturgy committee, and delivering communion to the sick and elderly. Lois and her husband Sid were also active members of Oakland Hills Country Club. Together they enjoyed golfing, playing cards and dining out with friends. In her retirement years Lois was able to fulfill her ambition to travel. Through several trips she toured the world with her husband, their friends and her sisters. In the 1990’s, she and Sid began to winter in Atlantis, Florida. After Sid’s death in 2002, Lois moved to Traverse City, Michigan to be closer to family and friends living in the area.

Lois was a talented seamstress and sewing was her favorite hobby throughout her life. She also enjoyed crosswords, Scrabble and Cribbage. She was an avid reader and loved to attend movies and plays. Lois was happiest when surrounded by family and she especially loved having everyone together at family vacation talking, doing jigsaw puzzles and laughing together. She had a dry wit and was quick to laugh. Those who knew her will cherish memories of her as good natured and loving, as patient and thoughtful, and as a compassionate listener who gave practical and insightful advice.

She is survived by her children Steven (Nancy), Peter, Michael (Jill), Patrick (Patricia), Thomas and Celeste; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her sister Joan (John) Buchanan; her brother Gary Farquharson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral service Saturday October 10 at 12:00 noon at Saint Regis Church, 3695 Lincoln Road, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m.
