Louise E. Hunt, 92, passed away peacefully at 1:45am on Friday, June 2, 2017 at Heritage Point Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Mishawaka, IN. She was born on May 20, 1925 in Dowagiac, MI, to the late Cornelius and Mame (Flipse) Hiemstra. On September 17, 1944 in Dowagiac, Louise married F. Wiley Hunt, who preceded her in death on August 18, 2003. Louise is survived by three daughters, Marie (Jim) VanDyck of South Bend; Marcia (Tom) Freridge of Hastings, MI; Mary (John) Steinke of Kalamazoo, MI; son, Mark W. (Jacqueline) Hunt of Austin, TX; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and loving husband, Louise was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Kuhns and Tina Leitke, as well as four brothers, Bill Hiemstra, Harold Hiemstra, Raymond Hiemstra, and Herman Hiemstra. Louise was employed as a medical assistant in St. Joseph, MI, for fifteen years. She also enjoyed many years as a homemaker. She moved from her birthplace of Dowagiac in 1965, taking up residence in St. Joseph, MI. From there, she moved to Tennessee, and then on to South Bend in 1990. She spent ten years in Kalamazoo, MI, from 2006-2016, before returning to the South Bend area. Louise was a Past Matron of O.E.S. She enjoyed reading, gardening, needlepoint, and jigsaw puzzles. She was active at church for many years as a Sunday School teacher, and working with children. She also volunteered with Kids Inc. in Crossville, TN. Funeral services for Louise will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. Rev. Carl Herbster of Community Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Louise may be donated to Encounter Revival Ministries, 2200 Blue Mountain Parkway, Harrisburg, PA 17112, Community Baptist Church, 5715 Miami Rd, South Bend, IN 46614, or to Smile Train, P.O.
