Louella M. Haertel, age 93, passed away on Thursday November 12, 2015 at Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center. Louella was born in Racine on June 1, 1922, daughter of the late Arnold and Amanda (nee: Doberstein) Kuypers.

Louella was a graduate of St. Catherine’s High School “Class of 1940”. On May 6, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Louella was united in marriage to the love of her life, Robert J. Haertel. They were married for fifty four beautiful years before Robert passed away on August 29, 1998. Lou was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and volunteered with the St. Mary’s Auxiliary. A diehard Packers fan, Lou also enjoyed playing the piano, cribbage, reading, and knitting and was the queen of crosswords. Above all, she loved her family.

Lou will be dearly missed by her children, Robert (Mary) Haertel of Palm Harbor, FL; Lisa (Mark) Christopherson of Athens, GA; daughter-in-law, Patricia Haertel of Racine; grandchildren, Eric,(Marie) Haertel, Christopher Haertel, Aaron Christopherson and Austin Christopherson; great grandchildren, Seth, Chelsea and Alexander Haertel; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Louella was also preceded in death by her beloved sons, Dr. Brian Haertel and Bruce W. Haertel; grandson, Jonathan; siblings, Bernard (Marie) Haertel, Irene (Norman) Reeve, Florence (Orville) Jacobsen, Marian (Al) Witte and Louis (Evelyn) Kuypers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 1401 Grove Ave, Tuesday November 17, 2015, 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Allen J. Bratkowski officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Garden Crypts. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Edward’s Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
