Volker, Lorie Ann Age 36, of Brighton, MI, was granted the most beautiful set of angel wings anyone could imagine on Sunday, March 5th, 2017. Her final days were spent surrounded by her immediate family and the love of her life. Lorie was born April 14th, 1980 in Kalamazoo, MI to Jeff and Jeannie Volker. Lorie's 36 years were spent living life to its fullest. Through her year-long battle with High Grade Pleomorphic Sarcoma cancer, Lorie's faith, spirit and love for life and humanity never wavered. Lorie loved to travel and had the opportunity to travel the world. She loved life and everyone and everything in it. Lorie loved spending time at home on the lake with her sweet Braylen. She loved to hunt, fish and all things nature and outdoors. Lorie found that giving back and performing random acts of kindness brought her the most joy in life. Lorie was a 1998 graduate of Otsego High School. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northwood University in 2002 with a Bachelors degree in Business Management and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Lorie worked as a Strategic Account Manager of Global Accounts for Office Depot and as a Marine Safety Officer for Macomb County Sheriff's Department, Marine Division. Lorie is survived by her loving parents, Jeff (Ellen) Volker of Inman, SC, Jeannie Volker of Otsego, MI; sister, Abby (Derek) Hildebrand of Otsego, MI; brother, Ross (Tiffany) Volker of Plainwell, MI; son, Braylen Bruyere of Brighton, MI; boyfriend, John (Luke) Dobish of Clinton Township, MI; niece, Delaney Boone; nephew, Hunter Boone; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Lorie is preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred (Joan) Volker and Ron (Dee) Keim. Lorie's selfless gift of giving continued on after she gained her wings and left her physical body. Lorie donated her body to research in hopes of helping find a cure for this rare form of cancer. Lorie's Celebration of Life will be held on her 37th Birthday weekend Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at The Kalamazoo Nature Center in the Blue Barn From 1-9 PM. In lieu of flowers: Lorie's wish for all mankind and the people who loved her is to continue to pay it forward with random acts of kindness to all. Please continue the Honey Badger Challenge by paying it forward each and every day in her honor. Donations can be made to: The Lorie Volker Honey Badger Scholarship Fund, PO Box 251 Otsego, MI 49078. This will be a scholarship set up for a graduate of Otsego High School who has been nominated by his/her peers and staff who stands out for being kind and their willingness to help others.
