Lois Laning

Lois Elaine Laning, age 94, went home to be with her Lord on November 18, 2018. She was born February 26, 1924, in Kalamazoo, to the late Anthony and Nell (Luyendyk) Tilma. On June 19, 1943, Lois married Peter "Chris" Laning, who preceded her in death in 2005. For 30 years she was the Office Manager and Medical Transcriptionist at MCS Obstetrics and Gynecology P.C., retiring in 1985. Lois was a charter member of Westwood Christian Reformed Church, was a choir member and Sunday School teacher, and was active in the Coffee Break ministry. She was a member of the Island City Quilters and was a volunteer at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo Deacons' Conference, and Park Village Pines Christian Retirement Home. She cherished her family and enjoyed cooking and baking for them. Lois was preceeded in death by her sister, Harriet Bos. Lois is survived by her sons, Mark (Sally) Laning and Jim (Sandy) Laning; her grandchildren: Jonathan (Kristin) Laning, Shontel (Joel) VanderLugt, Elise (Randy) VandenBerg, Trisha (Kurt) Feringa, Mike (Mandy) Laning, Sara Creech, Stacy (Wes) Cook, and Lindsay (Gabe) Arellano; her 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. The funeral service will begin at 1:00PM Tuesday at the Westside Chapel, with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. Graveside services will follow at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Kalamazoo Christian School or the Gospel Mission.
