Lois Anne Schmidt died on November 19, 2019 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born in Monroe, Michigan on March 2, 1941.

Lois is survived by her children; Julie (Jack) Hickey; Mark (Lorilee) Smith; and David (Leslie) Smith; and four step children; Layne (Jan) Schmidt; Galen (Michelle) Schmidt; Darren Schmidt and Ryan Schmidt.

Lois also leaves grandchildren; Jack (Kelly) Hickey; Jacob Hickey and Savannah Schuemann; James (Jessica) Smith; Karilee Smith; Joseph and Jordan Santiago and Justin, Alysa, Jaxon and Jace Smith. Great grandchildren; Addison, Emma, Nathan and Nolan Smith; Jacksyn, Madilynn, Bryleigh, and Paxton Hickey; and Calvin Hickey.

Lois also is survived by her brothers and sisters; Barb Bird; Richard (Chris) Bird, Linda (Peter) Nelson and Charles Bird.

Lois graduated from Dundee High School and attended Western Michigan University, where she earned a Master Degree in English Literature.

She was a life long teacher and taught at Coopersville Junior High School, Hibbing Community, Kalamazoo Community College and Western Michigan University.

Over the years, Lois enjoyed hiking, painting, yoga, rustic camping, and golf. She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and several countries over the years, but she most enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 212 S. Park Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan on November 23rd, 2019 starting 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning Saturday at 10:00 a.m. A donation may be made in Lois' memory to Bach Festival Society of Kalamazoo or the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo.
