Lew was born in Grand Haven, Michigan, the son of Robert and Nancy Tysman. Lew was a 1972 graduate of Grand Haven High School and earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University. For 42 years he built his career at Borgess Medical Center in community relations, where he retired in 2018. Lew was an avid and accomplished photographer. He was able to blend his love for photography with work. Many of his photos are displayed at Ascension Borgess facilities in the southwest Michigan area. Lew wanted patients to feel at home when they walked around the hospital, being able to see scenes of Michigan landscapes. Lewis and Paula Tysman were united in marriage in 1977 and spent 44 loving years together. Lew and Paula were high school sweethearts, meeting in chemistry class. Surviving are his wife, Paula; three children, Robert Tysman of Richland, John Tysman and his wife Adel Diama of Indianapolis, Marie Tysman and her husband Galen Reed of Kalamazoo; his sister, Lenore (Dave) Pearson of Minnesota; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. Lew enjoyed weightlifting, biking and hiking. He and his wife especially loved to climb the 302 stairs to the top of Mount Baldhead overlooking Lake Michigan in Saugatuck. Lew will be remembered for his generosity of spirit, devotion to his family and work, and his gentle, easy-going personality. A private memorial with family will be held this week, and personal messages for the family may be left privately at info@farleyestesdowdle.com or sent to Farley Estes Dowdle, 9710 E D Ave, Richland MI 49083. www.farleyestesdowdle.com Memorial contributions in Lew's memory may be made to pawswithacause.org, which enhances the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, or the Borgess Foundation, 1521 Gull Rd, Kalamazoo
