LeRoy Hope

LeRoy Harvey Hope, Sr., age 84, of Portage, MI passed away Saturday, Oct 1, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Alvin and Katherine (Latzo) Hope. He served in the National Guard from 1947-1950. He then married the late Nancy Lee (Vernia) on February 21st, 1951. He worked and retired from the Upjohn Company after more than 35 years of service. He was an avid golfer, and die hard snow bird traveling to Florida/Texas with his wife every winter. They also were members of the Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Club traveling to all of the lower 48 states. He was very active participating in bowling and fast pitch softball well into his 50's. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nancy, and son Randy A. Hope. Survived by his children (despite many dangerous wild animal encounters facilitated by their dad), Cheryle (Tom) Butler, Leroy (Jeanne) Hope Jr., Debbie Hope, Linda (Clyde) Thomsen and sister Mary Zuydwegt. Also 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. LeRoy was cremated and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct 15th from 4:30-7:30pm at the VFW at 1920 Kilgore Service Rd. Portage, MI 49002.
