Laura Louise Horton, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she most recently resided at the Sister of St. Joseph's Nazareth Place. Laura was born on May 29, 1928, in Duff, Tennessee, the oldest of five children. Laura moved north to Michigan after WWII to gain employment in Monroe, Michigan, where she met John Harvey Horton. They were married April 11, 1947, and had four children: Donald R. (Kathryn) Horton of Vicksburg, David A. (Yvonne) Horton and Krystal G. H. (Henry) Holland all of Kalamazoo, and Karen S. (Mark) McLemore of Spicewood, Texas. She has 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren. Laura loved maintaining a beautiful home, was a wonderful cook, and enjoyed entertaining guests in her home. She was compassionate and generous throughout her life and loved her Lord dearly concerned that everyone she knew would believe and be saved. She also loved leopard print, wearing and decorating with it often and tastefully. It was an expression of her "spicy" side. She was preceded in death by her parents Clem and Floya (Ford) Bowman; her loving husband of 60 years, John Harvey Horton; her sister Betty Bowman, her two brothers, J.C. Bowman and Elmer Bowman, and her grandson Alexander Lay. She is survived by all four of her children and their spouses and by her sister Mary Wilson of Bledsoe, Kentucky. Services will be held at Langeland Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St., Kalamazoo. Viewing is on Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. A Chapel service will be held Monday, October 27, from 10 till 11:00 a.m. followed by a luncheon from 11:00 to 12:30. A private family interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery that afternoon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission, 448 N. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, Michigan.
