Larry Glen Norwood, 65 of Kalamazoo, died July 5, 2016 at Borgess Hospital of end stage lung disease. He was born on February 6, 1951 in Lakeview, Michigan to Lyal and Elizabeth (Titus) Norwood. He lived on his parents’ farm along the Flat River in Greenville as a child later moving to the west side of Kalamazoo where he attended and graduated from Otsego schools. Larry had four older siblings: Kathryn Clayton, Betty (Ed) Lincoln of Greenville, Lyal “Skip” (Diana) Norwood of Sparta, Janet (Kurt) Helgerson of Richland, and one younger sister Kathleen (William) Pegg of Onekama, and many beloved nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Kathryn Clayton. He was joined in marriage to his beloved wife Rosemary (Dent) on June 18, 1988. They shared a love of nature, equality and a sense of responsibility to the earth and environment along with each other. He was a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Social Science. He worked as a union representative for many years and then worked for General Motors, retiring from the Delta Township Plant. He was a strong supporter of workers’ rights and unions and was not afraid to voice his opinion. He was an avid reader and always stayed informed about what was happening in the world. His joys in life were many and included a good cup of coffee, his wife Rose, connecting with friends around the world on Facebook, and his two rescue dogs Buck and Fern. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Kalamazoo Nature Center on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Kalamazoo Nature Center, 7000 N. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Kalamazoo Nature Center or charity of your choice.
