Larry Leighton Allen, 76, of Lawton, MI, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 21, 2019. He was born on July 30, 1942, in Lincoln, VT, the son of Pearly and Lillian (Holly) Allen. Larry was raised in Lincoln and joined the United States Marine Corp. in 1959 and he served faithfully through 1963. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and worked for General Motors for 27 years until his retirement. Larry had a passion for vehicles; not only did he work for a car company, but he spent much of his free time enjoying antique autos, restoring old cars, and attending auto shows. After his retirement he loved to travel south with his wife, Ruth. Above it all was his family. He adored his family and loved to spend his time with them. Being from Vermont, most of his family remained there and he made a designated trip every single year, without fail to visit the family and remain in contact. He and his wife were members of Lawton Evangelical Church for 40+ years and they enjoyed the fellowship there. Larry was a kind, generous, loving man with a heart for the Lord and he will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind. Surviving are his Wife of 56 Years, Ruth (Martell) Allen; Children, Barbara (Jonathon) Janiak, Larry Allen, Jr., and Amy (Michael) Mackey, six Grandchildren, Nikolas, Lilly, Faith, Kaylee, Abby, and Luke; Brothers, Pearly (Lucille) Allen, Harold Allen, Donald (Margaret) Allen; Sister, Barbara Magee, Sister-in-law, Rose Allen, and a host of other loving family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his Parents, his Brothers, Roy and Roger Allen, Sister, Ida Heintz. Friends will be received at Adams Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Ave., on Friday, July 26, 2019, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bill Vande Giesen officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton, MI.
