Laetitia Eloise Hoekstra, age 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 15, 2015. She was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, came to America in1950 and lived in Michigan. Laetitia, or Theda as many of her friends called her, was a registered nurse and served as a lieutenant with the Dutch Army during WWII. Herdedicated, caring spirit touched many lives throughout her long and amazing life. Laetitia’s artistic talents were expressed in numerous ways. She was a violinist with the JacksonSymphony, and her love for art and painting was the source of much joy for herself and others. As a mother of three children, she was able to balance many things, including caringfor her family, working as a nurse, as well as owning and managing various real estate properties for much of her life. Laetitia was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius, brother and sister-in-law Claudeand Amy Van Ooyen, and brother Pieter Van Ooyen. Surviving are her children Anita and Jim Carter of Naples, FL, Bill and Maria Hoekstra of Holland, Joyce and Tom Stehouwer ofGrand Rapids, her grandchildren Christopher Hoekstra, Elizabeth and Jon Kladder, Marcus Hoekstra, Jennifer Stehouwer, Heather and Ben Fiet, David Stehouwer and his wife JennaVanden Brink.The family will welcome visitors on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 6:00PM-8:00PM and Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel, 2800 Burton St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546. A memorial celebration service will be held Saturday at 11:00AM at Zaagman followed by a reception. The interment will be held in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Christian Rest Home, 1000 EdisonNW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. Laetitia’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the entire staff of the Christian Rest Home for their wonderful, loving care of Laetitia during her stay there.
