La Tressa Hiatt

La Tressa I. Hiatt passed away peacefully on February 8, 2020 at the age 101. She was Born on July 10, 1918 in Bluffton Indiana, the daughter of Emory and Dorothy (Beason) Simmons. La Tressa moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan shortly after completing high school. Soon she met Raymond W. Hiatt and they married on September 10, 1938; they were married for 73 years. For many years La Tressa served as a candy counter clerk at the F. W. Woolworth Company. She was preceded in death by a baby sister, Mayanna, her husband Raymond, her Mother Dorothy Musselman (Beason), Father Emory Simmons, and Step Father Lowell A. Musselman. Surviving are her three children; Joyce (Hiatt) Branch, Judy Hiatt, and James Hiatt; three grandchildren: Jeffrey Skinner, Michelle (Skinner) Grinder and Jamie Cooper; two Great-Grandchildren: Natalie Grinder and Logan Hiatt. La Tressa was a devoted mother and wife. The family would like to thank everyone for the loving care given by Heartland Hospice and the Heritage Community of Kalamazoo. Also thank you to Jane, Bertha, Fannie, Tammy, Sophia, and Linda, her hairdresser and dear friend for their very special and loving care. Per her request; cremation has taken place and private internment will take place at a later date. A memorial Service will be held at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street Kalamazoo, MI 49009, Thursday, February 13 at 2pm. The family will begin receiving guests 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Salvation Army or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
