Nedervelt, Kenneth P. Kenneth passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2015 at the age of 86. He was born January 13, 1929 to the late Matthew and Laurena (Alman) Nedervelt. He met the love of his life, Evelyn Mae Tuinstra through Christian Endeavor at Camp Geneva in Holland, MI, and was united in marriage to her on May 3, 1952. His life's goal was to make her happy. Evelyn passed away on October 10, 2005. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army until honorably discharged. He started his career in sales at KVP Sutherland, later Brown Company. After that, he served 14 years as elected Supervisor of Oshtemo Township. He retired after 14 years at Kalamazoo Equalization Department as assessor. He was a member of North Park Reformed Church in Kalamazoo and then at First Assembly. He served as Elder for both churches. He served as a Gideon until his death. He was a mentor and wise counsel for many. Among his interests were swimming, fishing and canoeing at Gravel Lake, south of Paw Paw. Kenneth is survived by his children, Linda (CB) Batts, Paul (Suzette) Nedervelt and Mark (Debra) Nedervelt; 7 grandchildren, Nick Batts, Jenni (Joe) Pant, Ashley Nedervelt, Nicole Nedervelt, Cassandra (Heath) Mikel, Keirston (Keith) Wechsler and Christopher Nedervelt; and 2 great grandchildren, Jackson Pant and Brendon Nedervelt. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Nedervelt. The family will greet friends on Tuesday April 21, 2015, from 12 1:30pm at the Kalamazoo First Assembly, 5550 Oakland Dr., Portage, where a funeral service will take place at 1:30pm., Pastor Dave Barringer officiating. Burial will follow at Genesee Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements by the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th Street.
