Yunger, Kay L. 1/27/1935 - 1/31/2016 Kalamazoo Kay Lawrence Yunger (Jenkins) passed away Sunday, January 31st in Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 81. Born January 27th 1935 to Carlos and Ina Jenkins, Kay grew up in Anderson and South Bend, IN. After graduating from Ball State University with a degree in education, she began teaching elementary school in Battle Creek, MI. While there, she met her late husband Andrew Nicholas Yunger. They were married June 1962 in South Bend, IN. Both teachers, they moved to Augsburg, Germany and taught for the United States Department of Defense. Prior to the birth of their first son, they returned to the United States and settled in Kalamazoo, MI. Kay and Andrew had three children, John Yunger of Manhattan, IL, Ann Yunger (Heckler) of Ottawa Hills, OH, and Mark Yunger of Milton, MA. Kay is survived by her three children and six grandchildren, Meridith, Gillian, Sebastien, Raphael, Andrew, and Juliette. She is also survived by her two sisters Ann Jenkins (Smith) of Anderson, IN, and Elizabeth Jenkins (Hughes) of White Plains, NY. As an elementary teacher in the Kalamazoo Public Schools for over 25 years, Kay helped enrich the lives of hundreds of children. She was also a long time and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kalamazoo. Between her professional and personal life she touched the lives of countless people in the community. Kay and Andrew loved traveling throughout Europe and the United States as well as spending time in their garden. Kay will be laid to rest at the First Presbyterian Church columbarium March 5th at 2:00 PM. Family and friends may share a condolence message online at www.joldersma-klein.com.
