Katherine "Katie" Schindler

Katherine "Katie" Schindler, age 86 of Portage, MI passed away on Saturday, March 18, 2017. She was born in Schoolcraft, MI on November 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Edmond and Hattie (Lynn) Arndt. Katie was a kind, loving and classy woman. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Katie was a hard worker who was employed by the Upjohn Company for more than 40 years. She stayed active and enjoyed doing arts and crafts, playing cards and bingo. On June 18, 1952, she married Arthur D. Schindler who preceded her in passing on February 24, 2005. Together they would travel all over the U.S. and enjoyed wintering in Florida for many years. They were faithful members of the Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Portage, MI. Though Art and Katie never had children of their own, they loved their nieces and nephews as if they were their own. Katie's fun spirit made her a joy to know and she will be missed by the many lives she touched. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Roland Arndt. She leaves to cherish her memory, a sister-in-law, Judy (Larry) Johnston; many nieces, nephews and cousins; all of her friends from church, Florida and the New Friends Community. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Joan Herbon officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Lord of Life Lutheran Church or New Friends Dementia Community, c/o the funeral home.
