Karen Louise Spangenberg, age 56, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, February 15, 2018, at her residence. She was born in Racine, March 17, 1961, daughter of Warren and Patricia (Nee: Klema) Green.

Karen graduated from Washington Park High School “Class of 1979”. On September 4, 1982 in Racine she was united in marriage to Mark A. Spangenberg. Karen was a member and deacon of 2nd Presbyterian Church. She was employed as a CT Technologist for 35 years last working at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, IL. She was an advocate for American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital. Above all Karen was devoted to her family. She enjoyed decorating her home for festivities and holidays. She treasured time taking care of her boys, her dogs, and most recently her granddaughters. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her loving husband of 35 years, Mark; her sons, Chris (Adrienne) Spangenberg, Tommy Spangenberg and fiancée Emily Neave, Jeffrey Spangenberg and fiancée Emily Leskowicz; her beloved granddaughters, Baylee and Lilyana; her father, Warren Green; sisters, Barbara (Charles) Jopke, Jennifer (Dennis) Ashley; sister-in-law, Suzanne (William) Wolff; nieces and nephews, Brandon and Allison Jopke, her godson Chad Ashley (Briana), Dustin Ashley, Heidi and William Wolff; other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Green, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Leona Spangenberg, sister-in-law, Barbara Friedrich, and a nephew, Michael Jopke.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, February 21, 2018, 3-6 P.M. followed by a memorial service at 6 P.M. with Reverend Alan McCalister officiating. Memorials to the Racine Humane Society have been suggested.
