Vander Slik, Julius H. 1/24/1915 - 10/8/2016 At 101 years, Julius passed away in Hospice House in Port St. Lucie, FL. Julius was born in Kalamazoo to Edward and Jennie Vander Slik. He was preceded in death by all his siblings and his wife of 74 years, Cornelia Koopsen Vander Slik. Their children are Jack and Bonnie Vander Slik, Judith and Bruce Thompson and Rev. James and Marge Vander Slik. There are 12 grandchildren along with great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A member of the Millwood Christian Reformed Church, he served as a teacher, deacon and elder. His career began as a tool and die maker. He was employed by Kalamazoo Stamping and Die for 41 years, retiring as its sales manager in 1980. He served on the Kalamazoo Community Chest Board and the Kalamazoo Christian School Board. After retirement, Julius and Cornelia settled in Port St. Lucie, FL. In 1992, they joined Sunlight Christian Reformed Church. A service to celebrate his life will take place on November 1, 2016, at Sunlight Church. Memorial donations may be made to the church at 477 Cashmere Blvd. in Port St. Lucie, FL 34986. The ashes for Julius and Cornelia will be buried at Riverside Cemetery on Gull Road in the Vander Slik family plot.
