Age 80, passed away at Kairos Dwelling Home, surrounded by her loving family and friends on Friday, July 20, 2017. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on April 26, 1938, daughter of the late George Russell and Esther Irene (Dawkins) Warthen. Judy was passionate about everything in her life. She attended Western Michigan University earning a Bachelors' and Masters' Degree in Education. She taught 6th grade at Indian Prairie Elementary. She then met and married Stanley "Stan" Luykx on November 23, 1963 and they celebrated nearly 55 years of happiness. Together, Judy and Stan began a very good journey, living the life Christ intended for them. They were blessed with two children, Andrew (Deborah) Luykx of Portage and Jennifer Luykx of Kalamazoo. She also leaves to cherish her memory, grandchildren, Amanda and Alex Luykx, and her nephew, George (Jackie) Warthen. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother, David Warthen. According to Judy's wishes, cremation will take place. The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 25, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church located at 9800 East BC Avenue, Richland, MI., followed by a celebration of Judy's life at 5:30 p.m., with Father Joel Turmo officiating. The family also invites everyone to a light meal following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kairos Dwelling Home, c/o the funeral home.
