Jozias "Joe" DeGoede passed away on February 28th 2017, at the age of 78, doing what he loved to do, being on the water. Joe was born in Kalamazoo, MI to Jozias and Hilda {Schraeder} DeGoede. His first marriage produced three wonderful children, Elaine, Terese, and Skip. Joe then married for the second and last time, the love of his life, Anita Boone on December 3rd, 1966, which produced two step children, Debbie and Jimmy Boone. Joe, joined the Army Reserve after high school, where he spent six years, while also working with his father and uncles painting homes. This was a job that he enjoyed doing his whole life, he took pride in his job. He spent a lot of time painting and then repainting Bronson Hospital. He was a life time member with the Painters and Allied Trades, International Union. When Joe, wasn't working, he was fishing! He loved to be on the water, he started fishing at a very young age and never quit, his biggest fish tale that didn't get away, was a 66 inch, 60-pound sturgeon, that he caught on a 6-pound line, back in 1989, had that fish mounted and kept it to this day. He moved to South Dakota in 2013, but always returned to MI in the spring to be with his 5th wheel and good friends at Lake MI, where he was a member of the River Bend Boat Club for years. Joe also had a passion for deer hunting. Joe is survived by his sister, Jean, Les Green {Delton, MI}, his daughters, Elaine, Dan Richardson {Garland, TX}, Terese, Leroy Henderson {Box Elder, SD}, son, Skip, Teri DeGoede {Youngtown, AZ}, also two step children, Debbie Hayes, James Boone both {Kalamazoo, MI}, one niece, Julie, David Hunt {Plainwell, MI}. Six grandchildren, Jason DeGoede, Ryan, Joey and Kyle Henderson, Rusti DeGoede and Scott Hayes, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Hilda; his wife, Anita; and his niece, Lisa. A Celebration of Life and Lunch will be held Saturday, May 13th 2017, at 1pm at the River Bend Boat Club, 33 North Bailey Ave, South Haven, MI.
