Joseph 'Joe' Lamia Jr., 81, of Traverse City, died peacefully at his home on Monday, April 14, 2014 with his wife, son and grandson with him.

Joe was born on February 15, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan to Joseph and Laura (Locvoli) Lamia. He served as a member of the United States Army from 1952-1954. On October 1, 1955, Joe married Joyce Mason in Saginaw where the couple raised two children, Barbara and Joseph “Joey”. In 1975, Joe and his family moved to Traverse City where he operated his own water softening business for over 25 years. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching classic movies with his grandchildren, and savoring the cooking of his beloved wife.

Joe is survived by his wife Joyce of 58 wonderful years; children, Barbara and Joey; grandchildren, David Habegger, Jonathan and Andrew Boehmer; sisters, Catherine (Dominic) Favara, Grace (Richard) Prebay, and Francis (Frank) Deniak; sisters-in-law, Joann Lamia, Sally Gustin, and Marilyn Metevia, Donna Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Robbie, Kelly, Joely, siblings, Frank Vivian, and Mary. Joe's family would like to thank his wonderful home health caregiver, Ashley Poetner.

Cremation will take place. According to Joe’s wishes, there will be no memorial service at this time. Memorial Contributions may be made to a Commission on Aging in your community.
