John Visser

Visser, Mr. John 2/7/1926 - 12/12/2016 Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord Monday, December 12, 2016. John was born in Kalamazoo, February 7, 1926, the son of the late Abram & Neeltje (Wagenaar) Visser. He was a member of Covenant United Reformed Church. John served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in May of 1946. John was employed as a Building Machinist at the Kalamazoo Gazette for 39 years and served as a volunteer fire fighter on the Westwood Fire Dept. On July 15, 1949 he was united in marriage to Constance G. "Connie" Sportel, who preceded him in death on February 15, 2008. John was also preceded in death by a brother, Sam Visser. He is survived by two daughters, Karen (Ken) Bushouse, and Donna (Larry) Boekeloo; five grandchildren, Kevin (Rebekah) Bushouse, Carrie (Steven) Rynberk, Laurie Boekeloo, Julie Boekeloo, Karla (Mike) Westra; five great-grandchildren, William and Anna Westra and James, Emily and Carly Rynberk; three sisters and two brothers, Effie Dykstra, Wilma (Neil) Kuiper, Gerrit (Betty) Visser, Henry (Clarine) Visser and Norma (Bob) Herder; a sister-in-law, Caroline Visser; many nieces and nephews. Private family committal services will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. A memorial service to honor John's life will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016, beginning at 12:00PM at the Covenant United Reformed Church, 3724 Lovers Lane, with Rev. James Admiraal officiating. Visiting hours will take place at the funeral home on Monday, December 19, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
