John Vander Ploeg

Vander Ploeg, John J. Kalamazoo Went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, January 11, 2021. John was born November 8, 1934 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of John and Henrietta (Bouwkamp) VanderPloeg. He and his wife founded Ship-Pac Inc. in 1964 where he worked until his retirement in 2000. John was motivated by helping people, both home and abroad, volunteering his time to many Boards, mission organizations, and community institutions. He was most passionate about serving his church, Grace Christian Reformed, and the Kalamazoo Christian Schools. He was an avid golfer and he loved cooking and traveling. He treasured his family and his friends and he believed that every blessing came from God. On November 19, 1954 John was united in marriage to his loving wife Margaret (Mejeur), who survives. Also surviving are his children, Kathie (Andrew) Hoekstra, Randall (Dawn) VanderPloeg, Michael John (Kimberly) VanderPloeg; 9 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his sisters, Donna Asma, Bette (Dale) Slobe; and many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Jean Geenen and Nancy VandenHeuvel. Private services will be held at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 South 9th Street. Private entombment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery.
