John Syers

John H. "Whitey" Syers, age 83, of Otsego, MI passed away, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at his home in Otsego surrounded by his family. He was born April 24, 1934 in Hopkins, the son of John and Cecil (McBride) Syers. He had worked at Mac Sim Bar, Mead and Rock Ten until his retirement. In his spare time John enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, going to the casino, playing bingo, spending time with his family especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. On October 4, 1952 at St. John Lutheran Church in Allegan he married Darlene Roblyer who survives. Also surviving are his children, Mae (Robert) Sousley, Doris Paradine, Mary (Stan) Town, Oney Syers, Glenda (Fay) Brewster, George (Lisa Hazen) Syers, Gail (Rex) Morey and Roy (Gloria) Farnham; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Freda Harper along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Justin Syers, granddaughter, Bobby Long, great-grandchildren, Johnathon and Lorenzo Mayfield; son-in-law, Robert Paradine; brothers, Carol and Ray Syers and by his niece, Beth Nicholes. Friends may visit with John's family starting at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Otsego until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 P.M. Cremation will follow. Burial of ashes will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery at a later time. Contributions in memory of John may be made to Peace Lutheran Church of Otsego. Winkel Funeral Home
