John Millar of Kalamazoo, MI passed away at his residence on January 17, 2017 at the age of 96. He was born September 27, 1920 in North Berwick, Scotland, immigrating to the United States as a young man. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. John was employed in the paper mill for over 40 years with KVP-Southerland-James River Corp. and worked as a Comstock school bus driver for 25 years. He enjoyed golfing and had worked part-time at Milham Golf Course. John was a longtime member of the New Apostolic Church, where he had served as a Priest until his retirement. On April 28, 1941 he was united in marriage to Barbara J. (Allen) Millar who preceded him in death on June 24, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his mother Jemima Kate Rosie Millar. Surviving are his children: Sheila (Harold) Armstrong, Barbara (Henry) Hatfield, Douglas (Teresa) Millar, Rose (John) Kiel, John B. Millar; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and two cousins living in Scotland Sheila Montgomery and Robbie Douglass. In accordance with John's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, January 21st at the New Apostolic Church (3600 W. Milham Ave) with Evangelist Ewald Heersema officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and immediately following the service. Memorials in John's memory may be directed to the New Apostolic Church Youth Group or the Salvation Army.
