John Cairns

John W. Cairns, age 89, of Kalamazoo, MI went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 27, 2016, with family at his side. John was born in Kalamazoo on February 20, 1927, the son of the late Vern and Hilda Cairns. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central Class of 1945. In January of 1945 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served our country with honor until being discharged in September of 1949. He returned to Kalamazoo, and in 1950 he married the love of his life Lamoine June (Walter) Cairns. She preceded him in passing in 2011. John was a hard worker who was dedicated to his community and family. He served Kalamazoo as a member of the Fire Department for many years. When not working, he enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends. He was a life-long member of the YMCA, a member of the American Legion Post 36 and the VFW Post 827. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed. He is survived by his loving children, Robert (Patricia) Cairns, Thomas Cairns and Joan Aernie; four grandchildren, Sarah, Robert, Bradley and Anthony; a sister, Mary Trimner; nieces, nephews and friends. John was also preceded in passing by a son, Steven Cairns and siblings, Vern, Hilda Mae, Harry and Dick. In accordance with his wishes cremation will take place and a private family memorial will be held. Memorial contributions may be given to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, c/o of the funeral home.
