John Herbert Brinn, age 100, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away May 15, 2019. A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2019, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Kiva at Friendship Village, 1400 N. Drake Rd, Kalamazoo, MI, 49006. John was born on September 16, 1918, in Murray, Kentucky to John Herbert Brinn and Artie Rose Whistle. He earned both B.S and M.S degrees from Murray State College and did doctoral work at Michigan State University and Vanderbilt University He was a dairy and tobacco farmer; a minister; a professor of mathematics, chemistry and agriculture; first dean of Delta College; first vice-president at Schoolcraft College; president of the Delta College Senate, editor of Recreational Mathematics Magazine. He never complained, had a great sense of humor, loved to tease, and maintained his insistence on using correct grammar and usage to the very end. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Orvis Payne Brinn and son David Winston Brinn. He is survived by his children: John Brinn, Susanne (Metevia); Herbert Brinn, Mary Ann (Caldwell); Nancy Sidney Brinn, Roger Harding; and Kathryn Brinn Westphal; grandchildren: Dr. Lisa Brinn, Danielle Brinn, Jeff Brinn; Jennifer Lentner, Ashley Kletke; Clay Rehling, Amber Rehling; Grant Westphal and Meghan Macomber; three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In deep gratitude for the extraordinary care provided by the nurses, caregivers and dining personnel at Friendship Village, Mr. Brinn requested that, in lieu of flowers, any donations in his memory be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund (EAF) at Friendship Village, 1400 North Drake Road, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
