Joseph “Joe” Thompson, age 76 of Walker, MI passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 following a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Thane “Tom” Thompson. Joe is survived by his wife Mary; children, Lori Nyenhuis, Lisa Thompson and Jeff (Heather) Rolfe; grandchildren, Nick and Adam Nyenhuis, Sandra Cortes, Elaine (Russ) Marzean, Electra and Kaileigh Rolfe; great-grandson, Benjamin Winkler; siblings, Elaine (Frank) Doran, Pat (Ernie) Japp and Ellen Kennedy; in-laws, Alma (Dick) Desjardent, Kitty (Chuck) Fritz and Tom Marshall. Joe retired after 29 years from General Motors in 2007. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing pool with his good friend Gary (Pauline) Opaleski, traveling out west, watching old western movies and sailing. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Per Joe’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at St. George’s Hall, (1513 Quarry Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504) on January 19, 2019 from 1-3 PM.
