Joanne Hassan

Joanne, age 82, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, MI. Joanne, the daughter of Meredith W. and Freida W. (Yonker) Vind, was born in Kalamazoo on July 8,1936; was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School. She retired in 1994 after over 20 years of faithful service as a Deputy Clerk for the Ninth District Court in Kalamazoo. Joanne was an avid dancer, especially tap and clogging. She was a longtime patron of The Barn Theater in Augusta. Joanne and her husband, Bob, wintered in Florida along with her sister, Joyce, and many Sherman Lake-ites. Joanne enjoyed playing cards and board games with her friends and attended and hosted weekly game days. Joanne's true passion in her life was her family, friends and life itself. Joanne was united in marriage to Robert E. Hassan in Kalamazoo on August 3, 1963. Surviving is her husband of almost 55 years, Bob; her son, Thomas D. (Mary Koenigsknecht) Heideman of Lansing, MI; her daughter, Marla S. (Joe) DeLuca of Kalamazoo; four precious grandchildren, Meghan (Dan) Waite, Martin McLean, Olivia DeLuca and Gabriella DeLuca and her beloved sister, Joyce (Ralph) Stacey of Sherman Lake (Augusta). Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Stacy Heideman-Hatter in 1978. The memorial Service to celebrate Joanne's life will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89), with the Rev. Robert G. Muirhead officiating. Joanne's family will greet friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Family and friends will continue Joanne's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the Service at the Augusta Custer V.F.W. Post #7956, 13540 West M-96, Augusta, Mi 49012. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joanne's honor may be directed to C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, University of Michigan, 1540 E.
