Joann E. Schuring

Passed away Sunday morning, February 24, 2019. Joann was born November 17,1925 in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Gerard and Elizabeth (VanBoven) Van Walbeck and had been a lifelong resident in the Kalamazoo and Portage area. She was a member of First Reformed Church of Portage and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. On October 22, 1947 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, Claude "Ted" Schuring, who preceded her in death on October 22, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Van Walbeck; and a sister, Agatha Kuiper. Joann is survived by her son, David (Donna) Schuring; 2 grandchildren, Kelsey (Ryan) Patterson, Trent Schuring (Michelle Sabo); brothers and sisters, Gerard (Carol) Van Walbeck, Marie Johnson, Claudia Alphenaar; special niece, Mary Beth Visscher; and several nieces, nephews; and great nieces and nephews. There will be a private family service and burial in Portage Central Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson's Foundation or Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan.
