Jennie R. Mason, Traverse City

A tenacious women right up through her 95th year, Jennie Revella Mason shared her last moments with her family surrounding her, telling stories and playing cards, which was her favorite pastime. On Tuesday, March 28, 2017 Jennie joined her late husband, Daniel John Earnest Mason, and eldest son, Gary Lee Mason in eternal life.

Jennie was born on October 10, 1921 in Williamsburg (Yuba), Michigan to Archie and Jessie (Currier) DeMoulpied. She married her adoring husband, Daniel John Earnest Mason, on April 11, 1942 in Grand Traverse County. After Dan returned from service in the Navy, they welcomed two children, Gary Lee (Donna) Mason and Brent Alan Mason. The boys were doting sons who were always there for their mother.

The original food demo lady in Traverse City, Jennie was known around town for serving up tasty samples at local grocery stores. Jennie also spent time as a secretary for the Boy Scouts, where she met friend and employer Mrs. Baker, with whom she traveled around the world, experiencing such places as Japan and Norway.

Everyone that knew Jennie loved her clever, witty nature. Jennie had an eye for detail and enjoyed creating ceramics and painting decorative wood pieces crafted by her husband of 55 years. She was fond of eating out and tried not to miss a single hair appointment, every Friday at 11 am. Jennie was a fiercely independent lady who was not afraid to tell it like it was.

The matriarch of the family, ‘Grama Jennie’ loved seeing pictures and hearing about the latest happenings in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s’ lives, and listened with an undivided attention and intrigue. She always adored her time playing cards with her family (generally winning), while enjoying a never ending variety of snacks.

To carry on her love of cards is her son, Brent Alan Mason, seven grandchildren; Jennifer (Mike) Lawson, Brandy (Tom) Gallagher, Amanda (Chad) Stanley, Courtney Elkins, Tyler (Renee) Nickels, Kyle (Jennifer) Mason and Bridgett (Brian) Beckwith, thirteen great grandchildren; Kimberly (Patrick) Hamilton, Cassidy Stanley, Jacob Lawson, Trystian Stanley, Natosha Elkins, Tegan Elkins, Isabelle Beckwith, Seth Gallagher, Jack Beckwith, Meredith Gallagher, Haley Mason, Hannah Mason and Harper Mason, and great-great grandson; Gary Mason.

Although Jennie insisted no one spent time crying over her death, she will be dearly missed. Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Munson Hospice House. Private burial was in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guest book and share your thoughts and memories with the family. The family chose Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City.
