Jean Pierson, age 85, of Holland, MI, died Saturday, Aug. 1st, 2015.

Jean was born on November 27, 1929 near Amherst, OH, not leaving the area until she enrolled as a music education student at Murray State University in Murray, KY. Jean was a gifted musician, excelling at the piano, organ, violin and saxophone, as well as singing and conducting. Upon graduation in 1952, Jean began a career of teaching music in schools, leading school and church choirs, playing organ and piano, and performing on violin and in choirs.

Jean married Edward “Ned” Pierson in 1970 and lived in Rocky River, OH; Orchard Lake, MI; Albion, MI; and finally Holland, MI. Beyond her love of music, family, church and community, Jean was active in Reach to Recovery, a program to support breast cancer survivors. She and Ned loved to travel, visiting many of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Central America and Europe.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mabel Mueller, and her husband Ned Pierson. She is survived by her sister Vonnie Wasem; son George; daughter Elizabeth; granddaughters Katherine Fruhauff and Rebecca Honeycutt; and great-grandsons Milo and Theo Fruhauff.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 8th, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 695 State Street in Holland. Visitation with the family will be one hour before the service, at the church.
