Jean Fleck

Jean A. Fleck, 80, died peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, September 6th. Visitation will be Sunday, September 16th from 3 to 5 PM at Lensing Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd, Coralville. Family Committal Services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hospice Endowment of St. Luke's Foundation in Cedar Rapids. Jean was born March 9, 1938 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of Chester and Alice (Johnson) Dalman, and grew up in Vicksburg, Michigan. On December 21, 1957, Jean married Arthur Fleck in Kalamazoo. Jean was a talented musician, reading music and playing piano at an early age. By her early teens, Jean was regularly providing the organ music for services at two of her hometown churches Later she was awarded a scholarship in organ at Western Michigan University. Jean also played trombone in the Vicksburg High School marching band. Musicality continued throughout her life with activities in dancing, piano and guitar playing, and organized singing (Sweet Adelines). Jean was a devoted and loving homemaker and her family was always her prime concern. In addition, Jean had wide ranging interests, including the academic pursuit of botany, was an active and accomplished quilter, a published writer and an enthusiastic biker. Jean is survived by her loving husband, Arthur of Coralville and their three daughters, Elizabeth DeLuca of Matamoras, PA, Julie (Byron) Tabor of Cedar Rapids, and Nicole (Marcus) Fleck-Tooze of Lincoln, NE; her grandson, Arthur DeLuca and her sister, Jacqueline Wetmore.
