James Lee Stowe Sr., 80, Northport died Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the Maple Valley Nursing Home, Maple City.

He was born on December 27, 1933 in Northport the son of Marcus McKinley and Gladys Letitia (Kitchen) Stowe.

James was a lifelong resident of Northport and owned and operated J.L. Stowe Oil Company in Northport for over 25 years with his wife Iva. He was an avid outdoorsman and golfer.

James is survived by his wife, Iva (Rogers) Stowe; they were married on May 7, 1952 in Northport; children, James (Kathy) Stowe, Patricia (Mike) Kalchik, Duke (Anne) Stowe, Michael (Audrey) Stowe, Christopher (Marianne) Stowe, Bradley (Tracy) Stowe, Tammy (Norris) Ladd, Richard (Sandi) Stowe and Jason (Cathy) Stowe; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brothers, Marcus (Joyce) Stowe and Basil (Barb) Stowe and brother-in-law, Jim Hooper.

He is preceded in death by his parent, Marcus and Gladys; brother, Warren Stowe; sisters, Cleo Martin, Jean Dame, Genevieve Bartlett, Rose Hooper and son-in-law, Richard Kalchik.

A celebration of James' life will be held 11am. Saturday, May 10, 2014 graveside at the Leelanau Township Cemetery, Northport.
