James H. Steele peacefully passed to eternal life at home on May 5, 2014, at the age of 81 in Interlochen, Michigan. Jim was born on May 15, 1932 in Dongal Township, Pennsylvania to Lloyd R. Steele and Alice B. Emminger Steele. Jim grew up in Chicora, Pennsylvania where he attended Brady School in Brady Twp. He served in the National Guard from 1947-1949 and served in the United States Army, as a member of the 18th Infantry, during the Korean War from 1949 – 1953. Jim loved his country and was proud to serve. He was a life time member of the VFW post 1224, he served as Quarter Master. Jim moved to South Lyon, MI in 1953 where he met the love of his life, Joan L. Campbell Steele and was married on October 31, 1953 for 60 years. Jim was employed at C.J. Rogers Construction where he was a Heavy Equipment Supervisor and in 1964 worked for the Ford Motor Company in Wixom as a Line Supervisor and retired after 25 years of service. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Jim had a strong love for his country and a resilient and loving devotion for his family. You could always find Jim outside, he treasured the outdoors. Jim was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and gardening. He enjoyed looking for morel mushrooms and asparagus. Jim loved this land and would travel over the years with his family from the Statue of Liberty to the Golden Gate Bridge and Lake Superior to Daytona Beach Florida. He would ensure that the family took in all the sights and they would visit family and military colleagues along the way. Jim is survived by his wife Joan L. Campbell Steele and his daughters and their spouses: Vicki and Pat Carducci of White Lake Twp, Jody and Paul Mellott of South Lyon and Vivian and Andy Green of New Hudson; seven grandchildren: Erica and Adam Miklaszewski, Matthew and Alex Carducci, Victoria Carducci, Cassandra Carducci, Anthony Carducci, Amanda Green and Lindsey Green; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Landen Carducci; sister Hazel Scheffer of South Lyon, sister Janet Uliski of Pennsylvania and a brother John Steele of Arizona. He is preceded in death by his sisters Goldie, Mary and his brothers Bill, Walter, Andy and Lloyd Jr. A memorial service will be held on June 8th, at 3:00 p.m. at the New Hudson United Methodist Church. A light meal will follow. Donations can be made in Jim's memory to the New Hudson United Methodist Church, Munson Hospice or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
