Jim died on Friday, January 19, 2018 in Kalamazoo. He was born on July 1, 1934 in Chicago to Carl and Martha Schultz. Married Sandra (Smith) on April 27, 1957. They were married 58 years until her death in 2015. Jim worked for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for 37 years. A member of Kalamazoo Anchor Lodge for over 60 years he was active in many masonic organizations and received the 33rd Degree in the Scottish Rite. Dedicated to community service he was a member of the Galesburg-Augusta School board for 13 years, 6 as president. He served for 21 years on the Augusta Village Council, 18 of them as president. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, he served as elder and a leader of adult education for many years. Faithful friend, husband, and father, he loved his family, community, and the Chicago Cubs. Survived by his children, Jamie Schultz (Keith Beveridge) of Edina, MN, Judy Griffin (Jon) of Plainwell and Bill Schultz (Deb) of Greenwood, MN; grandchildren Alyson and Grace Beveridge, Colleen, Sean and Liam Griffin, Will and Maddie Schultz; uncle, William Schultz; cousin and dear friend Dave Zorn; dear family member Susan Wilber; and many close family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Schultz. Visitation will be on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 2936 S. 9th St. and Wednesday, Jan. 24, from 10-11 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, 111 Capital Ave. NE., with a memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM. Rev. Patricia Weatherwax will officiate. Memorials to: First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek or Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation.
