Phillipps, James Randy Randy passed away at Bronson Methodist Hospital Wednesday, December 22, 2020 due to a blood infection. He grew up in Galesburg, MI and attended school there. He had worked from the time he was a teenager in the family business, Kal-Gale Printing, as a pressman. He printed publications including Greater Guide, Encore and Scene magazines. Randy was well-known for being easy-going and fun to work with. He was a very intelligent person, with a creative and artistic mind. Randy spent years perfecting a method of reproducing beautiful artwork on glass utilizing powdered pigments. He also loved music, and one of his proudest achievements was working on the crew of a Rolling Stones concert at the Pontiac Silverdome. Randy was predeceased by his parents, Dwight and Patricia Phillipps of Galesburg, MI and brother, Patrick ("Greg") Phillipps of Lincoln, MA. He is survived by his sister, Annalee (Jim) Henning of Schoolcraft, MI; sister-in law Janice Phillipps of Chelmsford, MA; nephews David (Colleen – deceased) Crampton of Kalamazoo, MI; Jim (Tina) Henning of Ludington, MI; and Mike Phillipps of Lowell, MA; niece Courtney Phillipps of San Diego, CA. Also, several beloved cousins and many dear friends, in addition to his companion of several years, Kimberly Hammond of Battle Creek, and her two children, Kenneth (Dawn) Verschoof and Vanessa (Dale) Beilman. He had a love of, and special affinity for, animals. Frequently, wildlife would walk right up to him, unafraid. Even old, mean guard dogs would wag their tails when he walked by, and let him pet them. Occasionally on walks through the woods, a small bird would fly down and land on his shoulder. (We in the family always felt that animals are good judges of character.) Randy had an overly-generous and caring nature. Sadly, he fought alcohol addiction for many years. Blessedly, with his inner strength plus professional and family support, he was able to maintain sobriety for long stretches of time. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to the selfless employees of Bronson Methodist Hospital for his care. Arrangements are being provided by Langeland Funeral Homes, Kalamazoo, MI, and cremation has taken place. A family gathering and burial have been tentatively planned for the spring of 2021.
