James (Jim) Phillip McFadden, 73, passed away from us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in Traverse City, Michigan. A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Michigan United Conservation Club or to the Wounded Warrior Project. Jim was born September 24, 1945 in Flint, Michigan to Dorothy Etta (Jones) McFadden and Russell Alexander McFadden. Jim graduated from Flint’s Ainsworth High School in 1965 and proudly served his country from 1965 to 1967 in the United States Army. Jim was employed by Chevrolet V8 Engine from 1967 to his retirement in 1999. After his retirement Jim worked as a Field Foreman for his good friend Dave Miller at Miller Communications. Jim was a proud Michiganian and loved the Great Lakes, going “up north” and the sporting programs of the University of Michigan. Jim loved history and was specifically fascinated by the history of the American Military, World War II and the American Civil Rights movement. Jim was very fond of two dissimilar forms of art; one being music, and the other being the Great American Automobile. Jim loved music and cars and once said “Chevrolet made just as good of art as the Beatles or the Beach Boys.” Jim also enjoyed gardening, cooking, spending time on Lake Huron and anything mechanical. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and lover of sports. Jim coached baseball and basketball to anyone willing to sacrifice the hard work in turn to be a better player, and, a better person. Jim enjoyed people; he enjoyed talking with people, working with people, laughing with people and helping people. Jim enjoyed strolling through the garage or house, finding something broken, and fixing it. Above all else, Jim loved his family. Jim is survived by his sons, James (Jim) Phillip McFadden, Jr. and his wife Nichole of Traverse City, and John Paul McFadden and his wife Erin, also of Traverse City, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Jim is survived by his three brother(s): William (Bill) McFadden and his wife Christine, Richard (Dick) McFadden and Leonard (Skip) McFadden. Jim is mutually survived by his sister-n-law Shirley McFadden and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russ and Dot, his infant brother Robert (Bob) McFadden, his sister-n-law Linda McFadden, two grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. Jim will be forever loved by anyone privileged to know him and deeply missed. Please visit www.lifestorytc.com to sign the guestbook and share your thoughts and memories with the family.
