James T. Geiger, 89, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019. He was born July 27, 1929 in Kalamazoo to the late June and Kathryn (Grace) Geiger. Jim was united in marriage to Donna Slater on April 5, 1955 for a loving 63 years together. He served in the U.S. Navy from February of 1949 until honorably discharged in August of 1951. Jim unselfishly loved his family and his wife Donna was the light of his life. Jim had a strong and enduring personal relationship with Jesus which sustained him through all of his life. Jim was a basketball and baseball coach for many years, teaching young men more than just the skills of the game, but showing them how to be men of character. Jim was a man with a wonderful sense of humor. He never missed an opportunity to leave you with a smile. Jim is survived by his wife, Donna Geiger; children, Jane (Thomas) Godbehere and James "Chip" (Dawn) Geiger; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas B. Stapert, Clayton L. Stapert and Jackson J. Geiger; sister, Mary June Gucma; brother-in-law, Edward Stuut; sister-in-law, Doris Geiger; special friend and helper, Brenda Pinkster; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Jackie McMahon, Don Geiger and Dick Geiger. The family will greet friends on Friday, January 11th from 5-8 pm at North Park Reformed Church, 1316 Barney Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004, where a memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 12th , 11:30 am. Pastor Paul Fazio will preside. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. A private committal service will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery.
