James F. Schweitzer, age 91, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at his residence Racine Commons. He was born in Racine, October 10, 1925, the 7th of 7 children of the late Theodore N. and Emma (Nee: Benish) Schweitzer.

James earned advanced degrees received from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and University of Washington, Seattle. During World War II he served as a sergeant in U.S. Army stationed in France and Germany. He enjoyed opera and classical music; historical and non-fiction reading. He sang with U.W. Parkside Choral Group for several years, travelled extensively to 47 countries and enjoyed baseball and foreign films. He spoke several languages. James was employed with the United States Civil Service stationed around the world – lived in Japan 14 years until his retirement in 1980. He lived in St. Louis, Tucson, and San Antonio before returning to Racine in 1992.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, sisters, Grace (George) Lennertz, Dorothy (Robert) Reed, Sr. Marcella Schweitzer, OSF, Monica Garbo (Frank) Principe; brothers, Joseph (Millie) Schweitzer and Theodore (Charlotte) Schweitzer.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews along with many friends.

Private services with interment will be held in San Antonio, Texas.
