James DeBoer

James H. DeBoer of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. Age 84. James was born in Kalamazoo on August 14, 1932, the son of the late John and Eleanor (DeLong) DeBoer. He served his country with the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart. He retired from Allied Mechanical Services after over 35 years of service. He was a member of Faith Chapel Ministries. He belonged to the V.F.W. Post #3030 in Otsego. He enjoyed wood working and was a custom home builder. One of his great joys in life was the yearly DeBoer family pig roast for the past 32 years. He was a dear friend who loved to help anyone in need. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Judith K. (Ruse) DeBoer; children, Cheri (Randy) DeBoer-Stinson of Decatur, GA, Deby (Rob) Wynne of Otsego, Gary J. DeBoer of Seattle, WA, Todd (Naoko) DeBoer of Huntsville, AL; step-daughters, Kim (Mike) Wurm of Denver, CO and Penny DeBoer of Otsego; eleven grandchildren, Jarae (Jeremy) Lopez, Kirsten & Kyra Wynne, Kathlene Stinson, Grace & Douglas DeBoer, Jasmine & Mackenzie Leversee, Kelly Stanley, Chance & Jensen Wurm, and Justin & Layla Beebe; and one brother, John (Pat) DeBoer. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas DeBoer; one sister and one brother, Virginia DeBoer Thorpe and Robert E. DeBoer. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Faith Chapel Ministries, 7736 West G. Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, with Pastor Thomas Koning and Pastor Greg Tinbrink officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:30 p.m. until time of the memorial service.
