James Cook

James Ed Cook, 87 of Traverse City, died, Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was born on December 13, 1928 in Cement City, Michigan the son of Forest and Reta Grace (Bogart) Cook.

James graduated from Grass Lake High School in 1946. He then served in the National Guard for over 3 years. James worked with Consumer's Energy for over 38 years retiring in 1983 as Buildings Superintendent. He was part owner of the former Hillcrest Automotive in Traverse City.

He loved collecting Old Cars, repairing them, attending car shows and auctions. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom picking and playing cards with his family. He was a Past Master of the Traverse City Masonic Lodge #222.

James is survived by his wife, Barbara (Alexander) Cook of Traverse City, they were married on June 25, 1949 in Morenci, Michigan; sons, Paul (Rosemary) Cook and Kim (Kimberly) Cook of Traverse City; twin sons, Tod (Jayne) Cook of Alden and Tad (Amy) Cook of Traverse City; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Silcock of Bull Head City, Arizona; brothers, Paul Cook of Jackson and Mark (Margaret) Cook of Grayling.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Robert Cook; brother, Nathan Cook; twin grandsons, Justin and Joshua Cook.

An informal visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Life Story Funeral Home, Traverse City. A Masonic service will be held at 7pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Scholarship Fund.
