James Cobb

James G. Cobb, 84, of Elkhart, IN died Tuesday, October 6, at North Woods Village in Mishawaka, IN. James was born January 26, 1931, in Plainwell, Michigan, to Alma & Mary Cobb. James is survived by his spouse, Nancy (Bucher); sons; James (Elise) Cobb and David (Jennifer) Cobb; grandchildren Katharine and Kelsey Cobb; brother Frank Cobb; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings Helen, Vina, Lillian, Elizabeth, Don and Earl. In 1953 James enlisted in the United States Air Force and completed Officer Candidate School in 1954. Trained as a fighter pilot, James served his country for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Upon his retirement, James moved his family to Elkhart where he served for 19 years as Airport Manager of Elkhart Municipal Airport. He will be remembered for his enduring devotion to his family, his dedication to his country, and his passion for aviation. Visitation will be from 2-4pm October 11, at Walley Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart, IN. There will also be an hour visitation prior to the 11 am service on October 12 at the funeral home. Pastor Nicholas Cossey and Associate Pastor Melissa Zimmerman will be officiating. Graveside service will be at 2pm October 12, at Mount Ever-Rest Memorial Park South in Kalamazoo, Michigan where full military honors will be rendered.
