While at G.M., Jake met Dick Cipri and Paul Domke who became his close friends and business partners in the storage unit business for many years. Jake was a willing servant for the Lord and served on the church council as either a Deacon or Elder many times through the years. He also seved on the North Christian School Board and the Christian School Realty Board. He was hands on for many church projects through the years, from painting a church parsonage, church foyer, etc., to Thursday Cleanup Crew, to Operation Christmas Child. When his oldest son, David, learned to ski, Jake did as well and enjoyed skip trips with all his sons. They would go north to Sugarloaf or Searchmont and even to Colorado. Jake also enjoyed boating, both sail and power, and had many water "adventures". Jake also became a tennis and golf enthusiast and enjoyed friendly competition with his sons. Jake enjoyed time spent rehabbing houses with son, Nathan. Together, they improved a number of homes. Besides his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Betty Jean Meyer.
